It ties into the same account, balance and order history as the website, so it's genuinely the same business, not a shady clone wearing its branding.

The core use case is legitimate and common — receiving a one-time verification code without handing your real phone number to a service you don't fully trust, or without owning a local SIM for a country you're testing in. It's also widely used by developers for QA on registration flows. It is not free: you pay per number, and pricing (visible once you're logged into the bot or site) varies a lot by country and service.

The honest trade-off to know about: virtual numbers are shared and get recycled between users, so anything tied long-term to that number (password recovery months later, for instance) is not something to rely on, and some platforms actively try to detect and block VOIP-style numbers.
